Contest Winner!

Our pumpkins are done growing, the one I photographed weeks ago has barely grown, so I went ahead and picked it, as it was the largest. Perhaps because of the chaos going on with getting ready to move, the garden has been mostly neglected (thankfully there’s not much to neglect)…if I could have tended to it more, I think I would have gotten more impressive results.

Our largest pumpkin was 7.4 lbs, making everyone’s guesses too much! But I’m not the corperate type to say no one wins :lol So, I’ll give it to the person closest, which was that chick of http://584blog.blogspot.com/ I’ll email you for you information to get your gift certificate out soon!

What is this plant?

I know I haven’t had many readers lately mostly due to Blotanical’s (really Google’s) feed problem. Hopefully it’s fixed and this is picked up and displayed!

This weird yellow fruit is getting huge, please help me identify it :treehugger

Identify this pumpkin!

I planted 2 kids of pumpkins, both Burpee, one is a “Prizewinner Hybrid” and the other 2 plants are supposed to be “Jack O Lantern”.

There’s 2 plants, both supposed to be Jack O Lantern, planted inches from each other (both were coming in so well I couldn’t bear to pull one :lol)

One is coming in like what I think a normal pumpkin should: green and round:

(The Mystery Plant)
The other came in yellow from the very start and is a little more oval:

What is this thing?

This is the “Prizewinner” for clarification, it came in green like the first picture:

It’s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Or, it will be! I sure wish I could watch this little guy grow up.

Then

Now:

I love squash flowers!

The bees and the squashes and the corn

Notice: The weeds are taking over. Ignore them and don’t think too badly of me ;) I don’t have enough time to keep them in check lately!

I’ve noticed a lot of bee life in the garden, and managed to get a couple photos of them helping me out…
With my tomatoes:

And my lemon cucumbers:

The squash are doing excellent. The growth each day is amazing!

“Prizewinner” pumpkin:

Zucchini:

Crookneck:

The corn (and my 2 year old carting a dragon around), which is almost as tall as I am:

Baby pumpkins

We have some pumpkins, just from the hybrid “Prizewinner” plant. This little guy has the potential to grow to 900 lbs. Won’t that be a treat for the new owners of the house to deal with :eat

I didn’t know that pumpkin vines send down roots, I went to move the vine so I could water easier and it was stuck…

see the little bit coming down from the underside of the vine? I had no idea! The stuff I’m learning :love

I died.

Really. When I saw the thermometer in my van and it said 106F, I died. Thankfully the a/c brought me back. Well, maybe not so much, it’s still 80 degrees inside my house at 11pm and I’m miserable. I’m sure I sound melodramatic, but I tend to get awful migraines with the heat (got one yesterday) and it just makes me feel so horrible. Blech. I’m really not thrilled about this climate change stuff!

The garden is doing marvelous (I felt compelled to use that word, I don’t know why)…I finally have a teeny tiny oh-so-cute little green bean that I will get a picture of tomorrow. I dug up a little russet tater too, so see how they were doing, and it looks excellent. I will be cutting and drying parsley tomorrow, it’s taking over! I wish the basil would do so well. And the oregano and thyme…and chives…I’m getting the distinct impression my herbs don’t like this soil, at all. Time for a container herb garden?

The peas are producing like crazy. So far, no one else likes them much so they are ALL MINE! HA! Their loss! I found I much prefer the sugar snap to the Oregon snap, better flavor and crunch, but the sugar is tasty too. Lots of strawberries, and the kids and Chris report they are awesome. Tiny little things even fully ripe, but very juicy and tasty. The pumpkins, zucchini and crookneck squash are growing very well, getting big and leafy, but no blooms. I’m guessing in the next 2 weeks I’ll see some.

See you soon!
