Thyme
Roma Tomatoes

Here’s the “before we attack the garden” pictures, it’s a wreck!

Identify this pumpkin!

I planted 2 kids of pumpkins, both Burpee, one is a “Prizewinner Hybrid” and the other 2 plants are supposed to be “Jack O Lantern”.

There’s 2 plants, both supposed to be Jack O Lantern, planted inches from each other (both were coming in so well I couldn’t bear to pull one :lol)

One is coming in like what I think a normal pumpkin should: green and round:

(The Mystery Plant)
The other came in yellow from the very start and is a little more oval:

What is this thing?

This is the “Prizewinner” for clarification, it came in green like the first picture:

Almost baseball bats

I couldn’t stand it any longer, I had to pick the 3 big zucchini :lol Going to make some zucchini bread and maybe a treat for the kids and shred and freeze the rest.

Mmmm crookneck!

Itty Bitty green pepper and Ginormous zuccs

How do you shorten zucchini properly? Zuck? (that sounds like duck) Zook? Maybe, looks alien though. I’ll stick with zucc until I get a professional opinion.

Anywho, I bring you: one tiny green pepper:

He needs eyes I think.

2 of the zucchinis are the size of a mini baseball bat I have, but thicker. They’re going to be full baseball bat size here soon…

The bees and the squashes and the corn

Notice: The weeds are taking over. Ignore them and don’t think too badly of me ;) I don’t have enough time to keep them in check lately!

I’ve noticed a lot of bee life in the garden, and managed to get a couple photos of them helping me out…
With my tomatoes:

And my lemon cucumbers:

The squash are doing excellent. The growth each day is amazing!

“Prizewinner” pumpkin:

Zucchini:

Crookneck:

The corn (and my 2 year old carting a dragon around), which is almost as tall as I am:

Corn Porn

I’m gonna kick myself for using “that word” when the google ads turn nasty, but I couldn’t pass it up :lol

I cannot wait for fresh corn on the cob! Corn sugar starts turning to starch as soon as it’s picked so the fresher the corn is, the sweeter. I look forward to picking the ears and immediately throwing them on the grill or in water….YUM!

Zucchinis and crooknecks and tomatoes, oh my!

Yes, I do have a “thing” for using the Wizard of Oz themed titles :p

Crooknecks:

Zucchinis:

Roma tomatoes:

Beefsteak tomato:

Corn:

Green beans:

The thyme is FINALLY growing!

And the parsley is ready to get cut again:

Those pictures I promised

I couldn’t wait to get out and get pictures…I’m like a kid opening presents with this garden :lol

Here’s a pea pod:

One of the ripening strawberries:

And the tomatoes with their new supports (the smaller plants are the early girls that I started from seed much later then the beefsteak and roma)…I wasn’t able to get a decent shot of the flowers, my camera has been having issues focusing:

The biggest corn:

And in other news, I went to Fordyce farms and got a 1/2 flat of strawberries for way more then they are worth and made jam:

I still have enough to do another batch of 4 pints, which I’ll get done today before they go bad:

(sometime…around visiting my dad and working and getting the house cleaned for my brother and his family that is coming Monday :dizzy )…Not gonna be a relaxing weekend!

Tater blooms and other eye candy

As requested, the russet potatoes in bloom (these are the organic store bought ones, the red seed potatoes I got aren’t too far behind):

While I was outside I wanted to snap a shot of the lettuce, which is amusing me with the growth. These were all transplanted at the time time, but some obviously were more thrilled with the process then others:

And one of the new broccoli (don’t let the picture fool you, it’s really only about an inch in diameter):

The corn and the carrots

Sounds like a book.

This is the biggest corn so far…a few not far behind…they’re all out of seedling stage but some much smaller. 4 got trampled by a 2 year old today so we’re down those most likely, but they’re still doing well.

I really like the leaves on carrots.

Awww

It’s so little and cute :)

Thanks, lady

Doesn’t this little guy seem to be saying something? Like, “thanks for putting up a PROPER TRELLIS, you SLACKER“?

Yeah I thought so.

My camera settings were odd in Super Macro mode for proper contrast and brightness, but the kids were literally climbing on my back as I kneeled to shoot, so, ya know.

Photoshop fixed some of it.
