Blogginess

Working on sprucing up the blog for this gardening season, a little at a time! My first step was installing a new comment system, which I’m really not sure about yet. Let me know what you think – is it a keeper?

Another “change” is I’m willing to review gardening products finally…I’ve been asked in the past but hesitated and ended up not doing them. This year however, I’ll do a free HONEST review of your garden product, targetting a large and wonderful gardener audience. Limited to one a week. Just email me for the mailing address and what you’re sending. Products sent for review won’t be returned.

Awards

As I was scanning the spam comments, I caught a couple good ones (bad akismet, bad!) and found that Garden of Eatin’ won this

Top gardening blogs award

Which made me feel kinda guilty for not posting anything about anything in a while, especially gardening related. All that’s left in the garden is tomatoes though! Maybe it’s time to post some recipes and other earthy stuff!

What are you looking for?

I have such a fun array of search terms that people come here from.

virtual farming – yes, I still play Farm Town on Facebook… add me as a friend on Facebook (amy_e_williams(at)hotmail.com) – just let me know when you send the friend request that you play Farm Town and we can be neighbors! http://apps.facebook.com/farmtown/

My Fish Taco recipe is getting loads of hits -
taco del mar white sauce recipe
taco del mar fish taco recipe
fish taco white sauce recipe
fish taco recipe white sauce
beer battered fish taco recipe
taco del mar recipes

And “chicken smells funny” – throw.it.out.please.

Rounding out the top search terms are avoiding monsanto (see the link over to the right), and bread machine pizza dough recipe.

Notice there’s not actually any about gardening? To be fair though, row covers for gardens and oregon gardening calendar are also in there, just not as one of the more searched for terms. People just like Fish Tacos!

No follow?

I managed to forget to disable nofollow on this blog. A note on the bottom of Tessa’s post pages reminded me! It’s disabled now, search engines like Google will follow the links you provide! Garden of Eatin’ has a decent page rank for a personal blog (3 right now) so search engines look favorably on links from this site, including yours! Just a little link love for my readers =)

What is nofollow and why does it suck?

Comment math question removed

Hi readers! I appreciate each and every one of you listening to my sadly irregular and strange ranting about all things garden and food. I love to hear from you and I’ve gotten a lot of emails about how the comments math question is not working. So I’ve deactivated it one more time and will see how it goes.

Oh, and I flooded the garden today! First time this year, go me!

Goodbye, hello

I can’t leave well enough alone and am giving Garden of Eatin’ a new design. I’m also getting rid of the Google ads to save page load time. I’ve added a “related posts” plug in to the bottom of each post that parses all my posts and pages and comes up with the closest matches. I’ll also be adding actual categories to the blog to help readers find information that way. Stay tuned, it’ll still be the same Garden of Eatin’, just improved a bit (……..I hope).

Google, you can be a pain

I can’t wait til I can garden again, I was making some decent loot off the Google ads when I was posting about gardening, but nothing now because the ads are all about weight loss, wrinkle cream (wtf????) and recipes. But I have *no* clue where we are living in a few weeks – once we’re moved and I can start planning a garden and getting back into the swing of things :) And no, I haven’t ran out of recipes, just been working a ton! I’ll try to get one out tonight!

Contest Winner!

Our pumpkins are done growing, the one I photographed weeks ago has barely grown, so I went ahead and picked it, as it was the largest. Perhaps because of the chaos going on with getting ready to move, the garden has been mostly neglected (thankfully there’s not much to neglect)…if I could have tended to it more, I think I would have gotten more impressive results.

Our largest pumpkin was 7.4 lbs, making everyone’s guesses too much! But I’m not the corperate type to say no one wins :lol So, I’ll give it to the person closest, which was that chick of http://584blog.blogspot.com/ I’ll email you for you information to get your gift certificate out soon!

Contest: Guess the weight

New posts continue below this post

This is going to run for a few weeks because we won’t pick and weigh the pumpkin until it’s time to decorate it for Halloween.

Comment this post with your guess on the weight of our biggest pumpkin. The guess that is closest to the weight of our biggest problem without going over, will get a gift certificate from Territorial Seed, with a minimum amount of $10. I won’t post the comments with guesses though, until the contest is over! The only hint I can give you is it’ll be over 5 pounds.

A little wordy?

Apparently, I like blogging about zucchini, onion and bacon a lot.

Thanks to outerbanksmom for the link to Wordle, I made this one using my blog feed. Very cool :thumb

I’d love for it to being a crazy fun forum that gets out of my hands so I have to have moderators and stuff to keep up :eat Join in!

Contests and give-aways

I’ve thought about doing a contest for months but can’t seem to come up with anything good. I thought about something with photos – maybe best garden photo involving kids? No, that would leave kidless out (or anyone not willing to put their kids photo on the net)…..Maybe have entrants send me their strangest gardening photos? That might work. Someone give me a better idea?

But then, what to offer as incentive? I thought about food – cookies, bread, jam? Would any of that survive shipping? A magazine subscription? A book? A gift certificate to Territorial Seed? Whatcha think?

And dude! I’ve got 29 readers! Thank you :love
