Drying parsley: a how-to in progress

Some random images and thoughts on drying parsley for the first time. I’ll put it all into one post at the end if it turns out well!

Started out with the biggest parsley, and grouped them into small bunches. Tied them with the left over twine from the trellis, and hung on a curtain rod in a window that gets a lot of direct sunlight. They are nice and bushy here, yesterday. Today they are wilting and I’m watching carefully to make sure they get good heat and airflow.

The parsley looks very pretty hanging in your window like that- better than curtains! 🙂

Seeing your parsley makes ours look like a joke… and with the heat a few weeks ago – ours has shriveled up and is on the verge of death. Vurge… verge… whatever.

    Looks awesome. Nice work.

herbs shouldn’t be dried in the sun. they will loose a lot of their oils and health benefits. Try a nice airy *shaded* place in your house.

Hi – I’m new to your site, but I like what I see! I dry parsley the same way you do, but I use recycled rubber bands because they allow for shrinkage of the stems.

    I’ll be checking back in!

jaz – I’ll have to read up on the sunlight thing, I didn’t even think about that. The window only gets about 3 hours of direct sunlight, I wonder if that little bit is too much? Thanks for the tip!

James – my thyme, oregano and basil are like your parsley. I finally gave up on them, and it sucks cause those are the 3 I used most! I rarely use parsley :lol

Mrs. Greenhands – that is an excellent tip and yes, my parsley has been falling out of the loops because they are of course too big now :lol Definitely a learning experience!

Thanks Cindy, I thought it looked much better then the valance I had in that window. 🙂
